In the garden silence cries soft
For the innocent has been slain
Laid to rest in the weeping stone
The earth sobs in pain
The streams laugh no more
The trees their sorrow hears
The rain has come twice again
As the heavens let fall their tears
Can the dawn even come this day?
Should we not be left in the night?
For who would care to begin
Another day without the Light?
But, hark! Listen to that sound!
And turn your eyes to the place
Where his body lies at rest
Wrapped in cloth, covered his face
See, the stone has moved!
The door has been rolled away!
And inside, no body to be found
For our Lord has risen today!
He's alive once again
Risen and glorified
Death could not hold him
Our sin's been sanctified
Beautiful. In the words of Andrew Peterson in his song "Hosanna":
ReplyDeleteYou have crushed beneath Your heel the vile serpent,
You have carried to the grave the black stain,
You have torn apart the temple's holy curtain,
You have beaten Death at Death's own game,
Hosanna!
^I wish I could write poetry like that.
Nice piece there! And a Happy (belated) Easter to you too! :D
ReplyDeleteYou captured Easter in six verses.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. It's hard to find Christian writing that is not cliché or trite and you breathed life into the meaning of Easter.
Well done.
Thank you very much! It makes me glad to hear that my scribbling has the depth I intended it to have. Thanks for the encouragement!
DeleteOh, I forgot to add...The viola ALWAYS tops the violin. Sorry, that's just the way it is. ;)
DeleteBe that so? ;P I'll have to get my hands on one one of these days and try it out! Thanks for the tip! :P
